Project Overview

Background

Michelle is a stylist & beauty esthetician specializing in lash extensions, facials, brows & body waxing located inside a spa in Westerly, RI. She had zero web presence and wanted a simple yet informative and well-designed website to promote her business. The site would show her offerings and service menu, as well as samples of her work and a way to reach out to her to schedule appointments.

The Challenge

To design and build a simple single-page informative website with analytics tracking that showcases a client's services and offerings that is simple to use and navigate.

Research & Wireframing

I began by sitting down and interviewing Michelle regarding what exactly she does and what services she provides for her clients. We went through her competition and discussed things she really liked/disliked, as well as taking a look at some of her favorite sites. She wanted something clean and professional that looked and functioned great on all devices.

I created out some quick wireframe concepts and illustrated how each section would function and translate from mobile to desktop. Given the amount of information she had I concluded that it really wasn't necessary for multiple pages and everything could quite easily be displayed on a single-page layout for the most optimal experience.

Design & Prototyping

I visually designed pieces of the layout inside Photoshop initially similar to a style-tile but more specific to certain components of the layout which I ran by the client for approval. I chose the fonts Playfair Display and Roboto because I felt they paired well for a professional & glamourous look similar to what you might find in a beauty magazine. Once I had the general visuals nailed down I then coded out the site using HTML, CSS & javascript.
